Hair Care Do`s and Don`ts

Hair disasters are an unpleasant experience and at one time or another every one of us have had them. We try to hide them by covering them up with hats or even worse, another disastrous hair job. While there might not be much you can do at the moment aside from visiting your local hairstylist, there are a few things you can do to prevent another hair catastrophe in the future. Check out our guide to hair care dos and donts to get your hair back in tiptop shape.

Hair Dos Invest in the correct hair care products designed for your specific hair type. For dry, damaged or chemically treated hair, look for products that contain moisturizing ingredients and are formulated to repair damage. If you have oily hair, use a product designed for deep cleansing.

Cherokee Business: Salon spotlights ethnic hair care needs

Trend Setters Hair Salon opened recently in the Canton/Holly Springs area, and owners Stacie Steward and Dionna Keels say response has been "overwhelming."

"People have had to drive to Buckhead for ethnic hair care before we opened," said Keels.

"Ethnic hair takes lots of maintenance, and if you have to go to Atlanta, a lot of people will go less frequently. Now, they can come here."

Keels and Steward met when Keels became a client of Steward's. Steward, who moved here a year ago from Baltimore, has 10 years' experience in the hair care business; this is the third shop she has owned. She also was an instructor with Empire Beauty School.

Keels has a background in marketing and advertising, and has worked with natural ethnic hair and braids.

Who graced, disgraced Sunday's red carpet

The Oscar ceremony has a lot in common with a wedding. Both bring out the best and the worst in people, sartorially speaking. Both involve months of agonizing about what to wear. And, at both types of ceremonies, other people often end up making the all-important fashion decisions for you, with varying degrees of success.

At the Golden Globes, the mood was lighter, the dresses were edgier, and nearly everyone looked fabulous. But this is the Oscars, and the pressure was on. Some bore the pressure gracefully, managing to make stepping onto the world's stage in a sweeping train appear as effortless as strolling through the mall in jeans. For others, the weight of the occasion weighed heavily on their shoulders, revealing itself in self-conscious fashion choices that seem to have been chosen without the wearer in mind.
